Yearly amount of products sold is 991.4 billion yen
According to the 2007 Census of Commerce, product sales in the wholesale industry amounted to 991.4 billion yen (a 5.8% increase compared to the previous census in 2004). The number of businesses was 1,508 (8.8% decrease), and number of workers was 14,350 people (5.0% decrease).
Although the number of businesses and workers are decreasing, the yearly amount of products sold is increasing and makes up 11.3% of Hiroshima Prefecture's total amount (8.7533 trillion yen).
Viewing the yearly monetary amount of items sold in the order of greatest amount, building materials, minerals, and metals wholesale (253.5 billion yen) was first, followed by machinery and apparatuses wholesale (207.4 billion yen) and food and beverage products whole sale (193.4 billion yen).
Greater demand for products and rising costs of raw materials accompanied by increased activity in the manufacturing (production) industries led to increased yearly sales in the wholesale industry. However, the decrease of number of businesses and workers continues due to the influence of the nationwide rearrangement, integration, and reduction in scope of business locations.
