Fukuyama's principal historical sites and landmarks

Fukukama Castle

The castle was built in 1619 by Katsunari Mizuno, and is used today as a place of relaxation by people in the city.

Rose Park

4,500 roses of 280 varieties seasonally bloom in profusion in the park, which is the center of the Fukuyama Rose Festival, held each year in Mid-May.

Myooin Temple

Said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi, Myooin Temple's five-story pagoda is not only beautiful, but it is also the fifth oldest pagoda in Japan including National Treasures.

Famous Spots:Tomo Park(Tomo-no-ura)

Viewing the scenic islands including Benten, Sensui, and Kogo that appear to float on the quiet Seto Inland Sea, a Korean envoy long ago praised the area, saying it was "the most beautiful scene in the Land of the Rising Sun." From ancient times, Tomo-no-ura has flourished as a harbor with favorable tides.

Taiami(Sea Bream Netting)at Tomo-no-ura

Taiami is like a nature poem, revealed in the early summer on the Seto Inland Sea. It is a fishing method with a proud heritage going back 360 years, and it unfolds like a picture screen over the wide sea when the sea breeze strikes up every May.
