A continuous increase of shipped manufactured products for four years straight
   According to the 2006 Census of Manufactures (4 workers or more), the total amount of shipped manufactured products, etc. was 1.6865 trillion yen (a 68.9 billion yen [4.3%] increase from the previous year). The number of businesses was 1,466 (a 79 business [5.1%] decrease), and the number of workers was 42,724 people (a 379 person [0.9%] increase).
   The total amount of shipped manufactured products increased for four continuous years due to favorable conditions regarding the iron and steel industry and electronic device-related products. Fukuyama’s total amount makes up 19.7% of Hiroshima Prefecture as a whole (8.5786 trillion yen).
   The iron and steel industry (724.9 billion yen, percentage distribution 43.0%), electronic parts and devices (246.3 billion yen, 14.6%), and general machinery and apparatuses (169.2 billion yen, 10.0%) make up a large portion of the total amount of shipped manufactured products. In addition, Fukuyama possesses many businesses that are the only or top business in and comprise a large share of their specific market, such as foodstuff production, textile production, chemical goods, rubber goods, and various types of machinery manufacturing.
